5.3.3 Modifying PIM Favorites Information

The Favorites stores all the username and password pairs associated with Favorite websites or programs on the user's PC. The information stored in Favorites is secured by the TPM hardware. This data is used to by PIM to automatically fill login information for websites or programs that require the user to login. PIM allows users to store thousands of usernames and passwords.

To add a Favorite: The easiest way to add Favorites to PIM is to enable Auto Capture in PIM Settings. Then, simply navigate to the desired webpage using the browser; enter the username and password, and PIM will automatically save the information.

To enter Favorites manually, perform the following steps:

  1. Right click on the System Tray icon and select Open from the menu.
  2. Click the Favorites tab (see Figure 5.34).
  3. Select the Add Favorite button. (or right-click anywhere in the open area of the Favorites tab and select Add Favorite from the pop-up menu.) The Add Favorite window is displayed (see Figure 5.35)
  4. Enter a Description and the URL of the website in question.
  5. If the website has a Username and Password, enter this data in the appropriate fields.
  6. Set the Auto-Fill/Auto-Launch behavior by selecting the appropriate checkboxes:
  7. a. If the checkbox "Fill in the login user ID and password for this site" is checked, every time the site is visited, Private Information Manager will attempt to fill in the username and password.
    b. If the checkbox "Auto launch this Favorite when opening browser" is checked, every time Private Information Manager is launched, it will automatically open the specified URL.
  8. Select Save.

To edit/view a Favorite:

  1. Right click on the System Tray icon and select Open from the menu.
  2. Click the Favorites tab (see Figure 5.34).
  3. Click the Edit/View Favorite button. (You can also right-click the Favorite and select View/Edit from the pop-up menu.) The Edit Favorite window is displayed (see Figure 5.36).
  4. Make the desired changes and click Save.

Note: PIM currently supports Internet Explorer.

To use a Favorite:

  1. Right click on the System Tray icon and select Open from the menu.
  2. Click the Favorites tab (see Figure 5.34).
  3. Double click on the desired Favorite or right-click on it and select the Open option from the pop-up menu.
  4. If the web site requires a username and password, they will be filled automatically (if enabled in Settings).
  5. Or, drag and drop them into the appropriate box on the web form.

To move a Favorite:

  1. Right click on the System Tray icon and select Open from the menu.
  2. Click the Favorites tab (see Figure 5.34).
  3. Select the Favorite to move.
  4. Select the Move To Folder button.
  5. A drop-down list of available folders is displayed.
  6. Select the desired folder. The Favorite is moved to the designated folder.

Note: Favorites may also be moved with drag and drop.

To delete a Favorite:

  1. Right click on the System Tray icon and select Open from the menu.
  2. Click the Favorites tab (see Figure 5.34).
  3. Select the Favorite to remove.
  4. Select the Delete button (or right-click the entry to be removed and select Delete from the pop-up menu).
  5. Confirm the deletion. Select Yes and the Favorite will be removed from the list.

To create a Favorites Folder:

  1. Right click on the System Tray icon and select Open from the menu.
  2. Click the Favorites tab (see Figure 5.34).
  3. Select the parent of the new folder. If no parent folder is selected, the new Favorites folder will be added directly under the root folder.
  4. Select the Create Folder button. (or right-click anywhere in the open area of the Favorites tab and select Create Folder from the pop-up menu.) See Figure 5.37.
  5. Type the name of the new folder. Press OK. The new folder is created and is ready for use.

To rename a Favorite Folder:

  1. Right click on the System Tray icon and select Open from the menu.
  2. Click the Favorites tab (see Figure 5.34).
  3. Select the folder to rename.
  4. Select the Rename button. (or right-click the folder to rename and select Rename from the pop-up menu.)
  5. Enter the new folder name. Press [Enter].

To delete a Favorite folder:

  1. Right click on the System Tray icon and select Open from the menu.
  2. Click the Favorites tab (see Figure 5.34).
  3. Select the Folder you wish to remove.
  4. Select the Delete button. (or right-click the entry to be removed and select Delete from the pop-up menu).
  5. Confirm the deletion and the folder and all of its Favorites will be removed from the list.

Important: When a Favorite folder is removed, all of the Favorites it contains will also be removed.
