7.4.1 Steps for Restoring or Transferring All keys to another PC
This scenario assumes 2 PCs with fully functional TPMs and Key Transfer Manager Software installations. It further assumes the TPMs and associated software are compatible as described above.
- On the (archive) source PC, from the Key Transfer Manager icon
in the system tray, right-click to bring up the menu, then select Archive TPM Keys. Informational messages appear above the Key Transfer Manager icon in the system tray as each key is processed. A final message about the total number of keys stored is displayed upon completion of the overall archive process. The TPM keys have now been backed up to the archive file.
- On the destination PC, From the Key Transfer Manager icon
in the system tray, right-click to bring up the menu, then select Settings. From the Settings tab, select the archive from which you want to restore or transfer. (Note: the selected archive could be on the source PC if network file access is available. If not, then it should point to a floppy disk, removable media, CD or other storage device which contains the archive from the source PC.) Close the Settings screen.
- On the destination PC, from the Key Transfer Manager icon
in the system tray, right-click to bring up the menu, then select Restore TPM Keys. You will be prompted for the key archive password. Once you have successfully entered the password, the restoration process begins. Informational messages appear above the Key Transfer Manager icon in the system tray as each key is processed. A final message about the total number of keys restored is displayed upon completion of the overall restoration process. The keys have now been restored (or transferred) to the destination PC.
- On the destination PC, it is highly recommend that you enable the Scheduler to perform automatic backups at regular intervals.
