7.4.4 Steps for Recovering from a TPM or Motherboard Failure
  1. Refer to the documentation that came with your system concerning replacing motherboard and/or TPM (or contact vendor from which you purchased the computer).
  2. Restart your system, and confirm that the Key Transfer Manager icon appears in the system tray.
  3. From the Key Transfer Manager icon in the system tray, right-click to bring up the menu, then select Restore TPM Keys. You will be prompted for the key archive password. Once you have successfully entered the password, the restoration process begins. Information messages appear above the Key Transfer Manager icon in the system tray as each key is processed. A final message about the total number of keys restored is displayed upon completion of the overall restoration process.

Important Notes:

A new TPM or a TPM that has been reset to its original state will need to be enabled and have ownership established.

The steps above assume that the hard drive containing system software and applications like the Key Transfer Manager remained intact and undamaged during TPM or motherboard repair. If it did not, it may be necessary to follow the steps outlined in "Steps for Recovering from a Hard Drive".
