Quickstart Security Setup
 

Fingerprints

Your Dell PC may contain the optional fingerprint biometric reader. You may configure this system to use your fingerprint to authenticate in place of the Preboot Security passwords and/or your Windows account password.

Fingerprint Enrollment, Preboot Security and Windows Secure Login require local administrator rights. Contact your IT Administrator for information on setting these rights for your PC.

To use fingerprint reader, perform the following steps:

  1. Read Fingerprint Tips to ensure proper enrollment
  2. Launch the EMBASSY Security Center
  3. Enroll your fingerprints
    a.  Go to the Preboot Manager tab
    b.  Run the Fingerprint Enrollment Wizard (you should register a minimum of two fingers)
  4. Set up the Preboot Security
    a.  Go to the Preboot Manager tab
    b.  Set System and/or Hard Drive Passwords
  5. Set up the Secure Windows Login with fingerprint
    a.  Go to the Windows Login tab
    b.  Check the Enable Secure Windows Login option
    c.  Select Password or Biometric in the Authentication Type dropdown
    d.  Press the Apply button
  6. Set up for one fingerprint entry for Preboot Security and Windows Login
    a.  Go to the Preboot Manager tab
    b.  Select Advanced options
    c.  On the Login tab, check the Automatic logon option

Note: Upon reboot, you will be required to enter your Windows password once to login. Subsequent reboots will login from a successful fingerprint scan.
