Fingerprint Tips

Practice makes perfect. Fingerprint readers provide a quick and convenient way to login to your PC. However, they do require a bit of practice before you can use them effectively. Follow the suggestions below to effectively enroll and enter your fingerprint.

The secret to a good fingerprint scan is consistency. Finger location, placement, swipe direction and speed, are all important.

Remember these tips when entering your fingerprint:

  1. Location - Start the same way for each swipe. Place your finger so the first knuckle below your fingernail is over the fingerprint sensor. Do not touch the mouse pad while swiping, doing so may cause an invalid swipe.

  2. Placement - Lay your finger flat on the sensor, keep your finger at the same horizontal level for the entire swipe.
  3. Direction - Move your finger straight back across the sensor. If done correctly, your finger will move at a right angle to the sensor.
  4. Speed - Move your finger at a consistent speed across the sensor, the swipe should last about one second.

Note: Upon reboot, you will be required to enter your Windows password once to login. Subsequent reboots will login from a successful fingerprint scan.

The Fingerprint Enrollment Utility contains an Interactive Tutorial showing images of a correct swipe and a practice utility. Please take a moment to view the correct swipe action and practice your technique.
