5.2.4.2 Steps to restoring your PIM Data

Use the procedures below for restoring the TPM backup to the original PC or a new TPM enabled PC. There are two scenarios for restoring data to PIM. The first is when there is no PIM data and the application is not initialized. The second is when existing PIM data will be overwritten with the data from backup. Note that this process replaces the original data with the backup data, rendering the original data inaccessible.

Method 1 - Private Information Manager is not initialized; no preexisting data:

  1. Access the PIM through Start > All Programs > Security by Wave Systems (Start Menu) or from the desktop icon .
  2. The First Time Setup Wizard will run, do not cancel this procedure.
  3. A dialog box, as shown in Figure 5.3, will ask about restoring from a backup. Select Yes and follow the remaining instructions.
  4. The user must enter the password for the archive before the restore will complete.

Method 2 - Private Information Manager is initialized; there is preexisting data:

  1. Start Private Information Manager and login.
  2. Right click on the System Tray icon and select Settings.
  3. Select the Backup tab and then select the Restore button (see Figure 5.25). Follow the remaining instructions (see Figures 5.26 - 5.30).
  4. The user must enter the password for the archive before the restore will complete.

NOTE: The Restore operation will overwrite any previously existing data in Private Information Manager with the data from the backup file.
