Getting Started with the Trusted Platform Module
EMBASSY® Trust Suite for Dell — Client Usage Guidelines
Synopsis: This information describes the method to turn on and enable the Trusted Platform Module on supported Dell platforms. For instructions on how to take ownership of of the TPM click here.
User Scenarios:
User has a Dell platform and wishes to turn on and enable TPM security. For a list of compatible Dell Systems click here.
For remote management of Trusted Platform Modules, Wave Systems offers EMBASSY Remote Administration Server (ERAS). For more information on the implementation and management of the advanced security features of the TPM remotely from ERAS, please contact sales@wavesys.com.
Turn On & Enable TPM in BIOS
Latitude E-Series, Optiplex and Precision Machines
- Reboot the system.
- When the Dell logo appears, press the F2 key.
The System Setup screen will display. - Navigate to the Security section.
- Expand the Security section.
- Navigate to the TPM Security section.
- Ensure the TPM Security checkbox is checked.
- Click ACTIVATE.
- Click the APPLY button.
The TPM is now enabled.
Note: The TPM can also be enabled in EMBASSY Security Center on Vista machines (Trusted Platform Module tab > Manage tab > Click ENABLE). - Click EXIT.
The system will reboot.
Vostro Notebooks (except 1310)
- Reboot the system.
- When the Dell logo appears, press the F2 key.
The System Setup screen will display. - Navigate to the Security section.
- Expand the Security section.
- Navigate to the TPM Security section.
- Ensure the TPM Security checkbox is checked.
- Click ACTIVATE.
- Click the APPLY button.
The TPM is now enabled.
Note: The TPM can also be enabled in EMBASSY Security Center on Vista machines (Trusted Platform Module tab > Manage tab > Click ENABLE). - Click EXIT.
The system will reboot.
Vostro 1310 Notebook
- Reboot the system.
- When the Dell logo appears, press the F2 key.
The PhoenixBIOS Setup Utility Main page will display. - Navigate across the top to the Security section.
- Using the down arrow, navigate to the TPM Support section.
- Use the F5 or F6 key to change the value to ‘Enabled', if needed.
- Navigate (at top) to the TPM State section.
- Press Enter to view the sub-menu and settings.
- Select ‘Enable & Activate'.
- Click the F10 to Save and Exit.
- Choose YES by pressing Enter.
- The system will ask for one more confirmation to confirm the TPM state change. Use the down arrow to highlight ‘Execute', press Enter.
- The TPM is now enabled.
Note: The TPM can also be enabled in EMBASSY Security Center on Vista machines (Trusted Platform Module tab > Manage tab > Click ENABLE).
The system will reboot.
Latitude D-Series Notebooks
- Reboot the system.
- When the Dell logo appears, press the F2 key.
The System Setup screen will display. - Navigate to the Security section.
- Expand the Security section.
- Navigate to the TPM Security section.
- Ensure the TPM Security field is set to ON.
- Press Esc to exit setup.
- Select Save/Exit.
- Turn system on.
- When the Dell logo appears, press the F2 key.
The System Setup screen will display. - Navigate to the Security section.
- Expand the Security section.
- Navigate to the TPM Activation section.
- Ensure ACTIVATE is selected.
- Press Esc to exit setup.
- Select Save/Exit.
The system will reboot.
